Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has praised defender Yerry Mina for a superb opening display against Crystal Palace.
The colossus was one of the Toffees’ standout players at Selhurst Park alongside Michael Keane, impressing with his physicality and distribution.
Everton were unable to claim three points, but Marco Silva will be pleased with an opening day clean sheet.
Pickford, who was brilliant himself against the Eagles, has backed Mina to come good this season after a frustrating 2018/19.
He said (quoted by Liverpool Echo): “Yerry was here last year and Kurt was tremendous. He’s at Chelsea and he’s a top player but Yerry is very good. He plays for Colombia and we’ve got competition all over.
Pickford also revealed that Mina’s English is improving and that that will help him become ‘a top player in the Premier League’.
It was a solid opening day showing from Mina, who will be determined to change the perception of himself this season.
Mina made just 15 appearances last term thanks to injury, after costing the club £27 million from Barcelona (BBC Sport).
If he can stay fit then he could easily become as adored as Zouma was last season.
The 24-year-old clearly has the attributes to play in the English top-flight and can become a force in front of England stopper Pickford.
