Jordan Jones has shared how Steven Gerrard told him that the door remains open for the winger at Rangers following his loan move away from Ibrox in January, in comments reported by the Daily Record.
Jones has not had the easiest time since joining the Gers. He spent much of his first season at the club sidelined with injury. And he left last month having only made three Scottish Premiership appearances this term.

As the Record notes, he got himself into trouble earlier this season. So it will have come as a surprise to few that he was given the green light to leave in the winter window.
Interestingly, his move to Sunderland is only a loan until the end of the season. And it appears that Gerrard is not ready to write the Northern Ireland international off just yet.

“The manager called me and wished me all the best,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record. “He told me to go down and to do well and more importantly to enjoy my football again.
“I really appreciated that and he told me to go and do the best I can and then we can look at things again in the summer.
“The manager has told me the door isn’t closed on me at Rangers. I just need to focus on Sunderland and I watch from afar and hope Rangers can also be successful come the end of the season.”
TBR View: Jones needs inspired loan to turn Rangers fortunes around
Jones will surely feel under a little pressure to impress while away. Getting into Rangers’s side right now looks to be a major task.
So the 26-year-old will know how imperative it is that he makes an impact for the Black Cats.
Sunderland are one of the biggest clubs in the EFL, let alone League One. So it is a fantastic platform for the wide-man.
And the conversation with Gerrard upon his departure should leave him with all of the motivation he could need to make the most of his loan.
