Jordan Hugill’s Middlesbrough brace shows West Ham’s woeful management of his signing

Jordan Hugill’s stint at West Ham was short lived and disastrous, leaving for Middlesbrough on loan in August only eight months after joining the Hammers for £10 million in January.

In that time, the 26-year-old played just 22 minutes across three appearances and failed to find the back of the net. Now in the North-East, he scored his first Championship goals for the club as he notched twice against Wigan Athletic.

With both being real poachers’ finishes, Hugill showed West Ham just why they signed him in the first place.

Finding such form will be crucial for the Irons if they are to hope to regain some of the money that they spent to sign him from Preston North End just under a year ago.

Having signed him when there was no clear place for him in the squad and with plenty of competition amongst the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll, he is only now getting back to his best.

Such poor management could cost the London club dearly but they will be watching on with interest as he regains confidence and form in the second tier.
