Jordan Henderson raves over Liverpool youngster Rhys Williams

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has raved over Rhys Williams after the youngster put in a fantastic performance against Tottenham Hotspur last night.

Williams was making his Premier League debut at Anfield, replacing the injured Joel Matip alongside Fabinho in defence.

And the 19-year-old justfied the show of faith from Jurgen Klopp, with a solid display against two of the league’s most dangerous players in Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

The teenager looked right at home in the 2-1 win, as he won all six of the duels he contested. He also made a couple of interceptions and was tidy with the ball, recording a pass accuracy of 86%.

After the game, £20 million star Henderson (BBC Sport) waxed lyrial about the starlet.

He said on Amazon Prime: “I told you before the game he’d been outstanding. I hoped for the same tonight, and he was outstanding again.

“I thought he was one of the best players on the park. He won the majority of things in the air. Defended. I could hear him talking all the time for such a young lad. Delighted for him.”

Williams really was brilliant against Spurs.

The 19-year-old played with impressive maturity and never once looked out of place, against one of the very best sides in the league.

Following on from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones, it seems Liverpool might well have unearthed their next young star at Anfield.
