Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has praised Tyrone Mings for his performance on his England debut against Bulgaria on Monday night.

Mings had to deal with racist abuse, but £20 million (BBC) Henderson was impressed with how he conducted himself and kept focused on his performance.

He told the Express: “What happened will obviously tarnish Tyrone’s debut. But he dealt with the situation so, so well. It was a top performance for his debut. I thought he was magnificent.

“That shows the character in him and in the team – and it will just make us stronger.”

TBR’s View – Mings has rightly drawn praise this week and needs to take it into his Villa form

Mings has been impressive in general since joining Villa but made a slack error in the 5-1 victory over Norwich. That’s likely a blip and he must ensure that it is in order to continue the form that got him into the England squad in the first place.

That’s focusing on the football but from a character perspective, he has been extremely impressive this week and his character and leadership skills have shone through.

He will find the focus on him going to a new level now he’s an England player and he should have the temperament to deal with that.
