'One of the best signings': Jordan Henderson hails Michael Edwards masterstroke, says it was 'massive' for Liverpool
Most Liverpool fans would agree that they have one of the world’s best goalkeepers on their hands when it comes to their number one, Alisson Becker.
The brilliant Brazilian has been outstanding ever since he arrived in England. His agility, ability to play with the ball at his feet, and of course, his outstanding capability to make big saves, means that alongside his fellow countryman Ederson, he is widely regarded as one of the world’s best.
Despite a few shaky moments last season, Alisson is now back to his very best for Liverpool. And according to his club captain, Jordan Henderson, the stopper is one of the club’s best ever signings.
“Massive. I think as a signing it’s one of the best signings the club has done in a long long time. He’s incredible. You feel so safe with him behind you. He can pull off worldies, he’s so comfortable and calm when he’s playing out and it just makes a massive difference to the whole team,” Henderson said to Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport.
Alisson has only conceded 20 goals all season, with only Ederson and Mendy at Chelsea having conceded less.
Liverpool paid more than £66m (BBC) for Alisson back in 2018.
TBR’s View: Alisson A Game-Changer At Liverpool
So much is often made of the need to bring in a goal scorer but Alisson has proven that keeping them out is just as vital in the modern game.
He makes hard saves look easy and he is, at times, almost unbeatable. This is big praise from Jordan Henderson but it’s warranted praise for a player who has been worth every bit the near £70m Liverpool shelled out.
It’s no coincidence that the top three in England have the best three goalkeepers. Henderson, then, is just like the rest of us in being blown away by how good Alisson is.
