Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has told the Liverpool Echo that whichever club complete a deal to sign free agent Adam Lallana are in for a “treat”, amid reported interest from Everton and other sides.
Lallana, 32, will become a free agent next week with the Premier League campaign finishing on Sunday. The England international chose to extend his Liverpool contract until the end of the season, but will be a free agent afterwards.
The Daily Star recently claimed that Everton, Arsenal, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Leicester City are all interested in signing Lallana. They will be able to land the former Southampton man for nothing from next week.
Henderson confirmed that Lallana would be leaving the club at the end of the season and stated that Lallana’s next club will be adding a top player to their ranks and are in for a “big treat”.
“But whatever team gets him is a big treat because he is a massive player. He is a great lad and a great leader in the group and the dressing room,” Henderson said. “Even if you haven’t seen him much on the pitch, he still has a massive influence in the dressing room, so we will definitely miss him.”
TBR’s view – Which club should Lallana choose?
West Ham would be an excellent fit for Lallana but the playmaker will surely fancy himself to be playing at a club in the top half of the division – and the Hammers have only just confirmed their Premier League safety.
Crystal Palace would see him start week in, week out and reunite with former Liverpool and England boss Roy Hodgson. But Palace have lost seven straight league games, and that may put him off.
At Arsenal, he would hardly start while a move to Leicester would see him act as cover for James Maddison. Putting rivalry aside, Everton could be the ideal move for Lallana. Whether Lallana is keen, is a different story.
