Jordan Henderson and Neco Williams reacts as Leighton Clarkson leaves Liverpool for Blackburn loan
Jordan Henderson and Neco Williams are amongst the Liverpool players to wish Leighton Clarkson luck on Instagram after it was announced on Monday that he has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan.
Clarkson is one of a large number of impressive youngsters looking to make the grade at Anfield.
The 19-year-old has made a handful of first-team appearances for the Reds. He was named in the starting lineup for a Champions League tie with Midtjylland in 2020.
He is now set to secure a lot more senior experience over the coming months. But he will be plying his trade elsewhere.
Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that the talented midfielder has moved to Ewood Park for the campaign.
Clarkson was born in Blackburn – almost a month before Michael Owen and Matt Jansen scored in a 1-1 draw between the two clubs in 2001 – and he has taken to Instagram to express his delight at joining Tony Mowbray’s side.
And amongst those to wish him well was Henderson, as well as several young players in the first-team fold on Merseyside…
Clarkson knows all too well how significant Blackburn loan could be for his Liverpool prospects
A loan move to the Championship looks to be a fantastic opportunity for the teenager.
And it seems significant that it is Blackburn who have landed the youngster.
Of course, it was Rovers who took Harvey Elliott last season. And the attacker went on to enjoy a stunning campaign in the second tier.
Obviously, Elliott and Clarkson play in different positions. But comparisons are still likely.
And Clarkson will hope that he can put himself on the path Elliott is seemingly on.
The youngster came on against Norwich at the weekend. And it would be no surprise if he enjoyed a good amount of game-time this season.
