Jordan Henderson and Granit Xhaka were amongst the players to take to Instagram to wish Xherdan Shaqiri well after Liverpool announced on their official website that the 29-year-old has joined Lyon permanently.
Shaqiri’s exit was confirmed on Monday. It comes after three years with the Reds, during which time he helped Jurgen Klopp’s side win the Champions League and Premier League.

Of course, it was probably quite a frustrating spell for the Swiss at times. He made 63 appearances in all competitions across the three years.
Shaqiri struggled to secure a regular spot in Klopp’s plans during his time on Merseyside. So it appears that the Reds have made a decision that suits all parties.

According to The Athletic, the Ligue 1 side have paid £9.5 million for Shaqiri. It is noted that they previously had a £4 million bid rejected.
The Athletic notes that Liverpool have been prepared for Shaqiri’s exit for some time. Harvey Elliott is expected to step into his role within the squad.
Henderson and Xhaka wish Shaqiri well at Lyon after Liverpool exit
Shaqiri has taken to Instagram following his move. The attacking midfielder posted images of himself in his new surroundings.
And amongst those to reply were Henderson and his countryman Xhaka. Both players wished Shaqiri well…

In terms of game-time, Shaqiri was probably slightly unlucky that he joined Liverpool at a time when the Reds were approaching the summit of the game once again.
But he certainly played his part in their success. On his day, he had the ability to change any game in the Premier League.
And you imagine that Klopp would have been only too happy to keep him for another year if given the option.
