Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson admits he needs to start scoring goals for England in order to keep his place in a more advanced midfield role.
As per the Daily Mail, Henderson insists that the team winning is more important but acknowledges he needs to chip in now he’s been moved forward from the holding midfield role he took up during the 2018 World Cup.
£140,000-a-week (Spotrac) Henderson said: “Goals are something I can improve on. ‘A lot of games I have played as a six, so that comes into play. But I’ve had opportunities and I should have scored more than I have, for sure.
“It’s something I need to improve on if I’m going to play in that more advanced role. But if everyone else is scoring and we are winning, then I’m happy. I just concentrate on winning.”

TBR’s View – Henderson must improve creativity to fully nail down more advanced role
In all likelihood, Henderson, as the vice-captain of the side and skipper of a title-chasing side, will be in England’s side for Euro 2020.
But if it is to be in that more advanced midfield role he is now playing for club and country, he has to offer a goal threat.
At Liverpool, it’s slightly different because the front three are so prolific and his role is more about pressing and covering behind Mo Salah on that right hand side.
But England don’t quite have that quality so there’s more focus on that midfield balance. Fortunately for Henderson, not many of England’s other options bag on a regular basis – Jesse Lingard’s poor league record went viral – but getting off the mark for his country would do his hopes of nailing down the number eight shirt no harm.
