One of Alexandre Lacazette’s former teammates believes the Gunners ace needs to be more selfish if he is to force his way into Didier Deschamps’ France squad.
Midfielder Jordan Ferri knows the striker well from their time at Lyon together, and the 27-year-old reckons his old friend’s selfless ways are costing him a place in the national squad.

Lacazette, 28, has just 16 caps for Les Bleus and has not featured for his country since November 2017 – his last appearance coming against Germany, whom he hit a brace against.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Ferri remarked: “It is a decision that the national team boss makes. Maybe Lacazette sometimes does too much for the rest of the team. Maybe he needs to be a bit more selfish.
“With his play, I think he gets as many assists as goals. He needs to be a bit more of a killer sometimes and think more about himself.

“Maybe he would have a few more goals to his name. But that would also change his style of play and it would no longer be the same Lacazette.”
For Arsenal, Lacazette – who earns £182,000-a-week at the Emirates (Spotrac) – has 42 goals in 107 appearances and 20 assists, which perhaps does highlight his selflessness.
TBR’s view – Ferri has a point?
Lacazette is a top striker who certainly has the capacity to play for his country.

But for whatever reason, the stubborn Deschamps continues to overlook the hitman.
Given he won the most recent World Cup, maybe the manager is justified in his selections, and it is therefore on Lacazette to prove why he should be getting called up again.
Perhaps in order to do that, he will simply need to score more goals in order to attract Deschamps’ attention as Ferri suggests.
