West Ham are reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
According to the Daily Mail, the Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini would jump at the chance to bring the 26-year-old to the London Stadium in January.
It is understood that West Ham are exploring the possibility of a raid for the Englishman, but Newcastle could won’t let him go easily and he is valued at around £20million.
Shelvey, who earns £70,000-a-week (Spotrac), is an interesting option for Pellergrini.
There is no doubt the central midfielder would be a gamble, as he already divides opinion at St James’ Park and can often blow hot and cold with his performance.
But the six-time capped England international can bfs games from the centre of the park when on form and if he settles well at West Ham he could be worth the investment.
Shelvey is a pass master that works effectively as a deep-lying playmaker, where he can dominate possession and influence the game.
West Ham don’t have many midfielders with his quality on the ball and he could offer a nice blend alongside Declan Rice.
But the Newcastle midfielder can be rash at times on the pitch and so far this season has struggled to reach the form he displayed in the last campaign.
Shelvey has a wealth of experience from his time with Liverpool, Swansea and now Newcastle, but history proves he would be a gamble for West Ham.
