Jon Walters explains why Tottenham should feel FA Cup exit was unfair

Jon Walters has taken to Twitter after watching Tottenham Hotspur suffer an FA Cup penalty-shootout defeat to Norwich City on Wednesday night – claiming The Canaries achieved victory unfairly.

Spurs were knocked out of the fifth round after Tim Krul pulled off two penalty-shootout saves to help the Canaries win 3-2 after the two teams were deadlocked. Gedson Fernandes and Troy Parrott had penalties saved, while Erik Lamela hit the bar.

The shootout arrived after a mistake from Michel Vorm allowed Norwich striker Josip Drmic to score in the 78th minute, cancelling out Jan Vertonghen’s excellent first-half header – from a stunning Gio Lo Celso free-kick.

Walters, who was covering the game for BBC Sport, posted on Twitter after the match – claiming Norwich had beaten Tottenham in the shootout unfairly because goalkeeper Krul was yards off his line for each penalty kick.

TBR’s view – What is left for Tottenham this season?

It seems to have all started unravelling. A few weeks ago, wins over Manchester City, Southampton in the FA Cup and then a late rally to overcome Aston Villa had confidence coursing through Spurs veins – but that has completely evaporated.

They have a mountain to climb in the first leg of the Champions League tie against RB Leipzig, out of the FA Cup, and up against it to even finish in fifth in the Premier League. Reports of Harry Kane open to a move have also emerged.

Mauricio Pochettino’s legacy is beginning to collapse, and Jose Mourinho is struggling to prop it back up.
