John Terry is reportedly keen on bringing Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the Aston Villa this summer.

According to the Daily Star, the former Chelsea captain is ‘ready to convince’ the midfielder to move to Villa Park.

Loftus-Cheek and Terry played together in centre-back’s last season for the west London club. Under Antonio Conte, the duo won the Premier League title.

A summer departure for Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek is expected to leave Chelsea this summer. TEAMtalk claim that Villa, as well as Crystal Palace, are both keen on the England international.

The report also states that the 25-year-old midfielder is not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next season.

Chelsea won the UEFA Champions League this weekend, whilst Loftus-Cheek has spent the year on loan with Fulham.

Searching for backup for Grealish

With the transfer window opening in just a few weeks, Villa are likely to be in the market for an attacking midfielder.

Ross Barkley is expected to remain at Chelsea after returning to the club following the end of his loan spell with Dean Smith’s side. The former Everton star managed just four goals and one assist for the Villains this season.

Although Jack Grealish is back to full fitness, his injury problems this year could urge Villa to sign a player who can fill in for the club captain should similar problems occur in the future.

Loftus-Cheek could be a risk for Villa

There’s no doubt that Loftus-Cheek is a quality midfielder who has the talent to compete in the Premier League.

But signing the Chelsea man permanently could be a risky signing for Villa. The 25-year-old England man is yet to fully recover from an Achilles injury he suffered whilst playing for Chelsea in 2019.

And with a reported wage of £100,000 according to the Standard, Loftus-Cheek could become one of Villa’s most well-paid players without being a guaranteed starter.
