John Terry has become the latest former player to shower praise on England’s Jude Bellingham, ahead of the Three Lions’ clash with France tonight.
Bellingham is set to lead England’s charge to overcome the world champions and fire Gareth Southgate’s men into a second successive World Cup semi-final. Of course, the task is massive and England need Bellingham and more to be at their very best.
As we know, Bellingham is being heavily linked with a move away from Dortmund. Liverpool are thought to be frontrunners in that race. The Reds, as reported by multiple outlets, believe they are in a good position to land the teenager.
And speaking about Bellingham to Goal, former Chelsea skipper Terry believes he can see why he’s so in-demand.
Terry praises Bellingham
Giving his comments to Goal, Terry believes that England can often over-hype a player and it lead to their downfall.
But with Bellingham, Terry believes he’s taking it all in his stride and if anything, he’s revelling under pressure.
“The best players figure it out and find a way and actually enjoy the pressure and the hype. I think in England” the mentality is different. Sometimes you build players up to then knock them down. I think in other countries, you look at [Kylian] Mbappe, and he gets a lot of praise. I think the English players have to be probably a little bit stronger because the negativity of a bad performance or a bad few months can be a lot harsher than anything else.

“He deserves the hype. He’s shown great experience for someone so young, and I think it shows the kind of character he is leaving the UK to go and play in Germany. To do what he’s done at such a young age is a big thing for a young man to do. He deserves the credit, he deserves the hype, because he’s been fantastic.”
“What’s he 19? And now he’s playing in a World Cup, performing, scoring goals. He’s showing the maturity of a big player like a Steven Gerrard, who I know is his idol. It’s great to see.”
TBR’s View: Bellingham could shape English football for years to come
Not many come through with England who simply blow you away. But Jude Bellingham is one of those players.
Much like Wayne Rooney in 2004, Bellingham has taken to international football like a duck to water and has shown just why Liverpool are so desperate to sign him.
Terry’s comments here are bang on as well. The pressure is on Bellingham. But he seems to be revelling in it and that is a huge plus for the Three Lions ahead of tonight.
