Granit Xhaka and John Terry were amongst those to laud Emi Martinez on Instagram after the Aston Villa goalkeeper claimed the Best Goalkeeper award at the 2021 Copa America after helping Argentina to glory.
Martinez kept his fourth clean sheet of the tournament in the final as Lionel Scaloni’s men beat Brazil 1-0 in the Maracana.

Angel Di Maria got the only goal midway through the first-half. And it proved to be a fairly quiet evening for Martinez. Brazil registered just two shots on target.
Of course, the 28-year-old more than played his part in getting his country to the final. He produced three saves in the semi-final penalty shootout against Colombia.

Copa America win rounds off amazing 13 months for Martinez
It has been an incredible time for Martinez. It was less than 13 months ago that Bernd Leno sustained the injury that allowed Martinez to enjoy a run as Arsenal’s number one.
Obviously, he subsequently left for Villa to secure regular game-time. And he proved to be an outstanding signing for the Villans.
Remarkably, he had not made his debut for Argentina until June of this year. But he now boasts a major honour at international level.
Unsurprisingly, Martinez was keen to take to social media to celebrate the win and the Best Goalkeeper Award…
And amongst those to congratulate the stopper were Terry, Ezri Konsa and former Arsenal teammate Granit Xhaka…
