John McGinn’s long-term Aston Villa prospects are diminishing by the week

Aston Villa drew 2-2 with Burnley, and there was yet another fine performance for the Villans from John McGinn.

Dean Smith’s side took the lead twice in the game but were pegged back by the plucky Clarets at Villa Park.

Anwar El Ghazi gave the hosts the lead before Jay Rodriguez equalised, and McGinn’s superb volley was then cancelled out moments later by Chris Wood.

There will be huge frustration for Smith, who has already seen his side let leads slip against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal this season.

The manager will have concerns about his side’s ability to keep focused as games draw to a close.

Something else that will no doubt become a concern, if things continue in the same way, is the form of McGinn.

The Scotland international is in absolutely brilliant form right now and is definitely the team’s talisman at this moment in time.

Realistically, McGinn’s long-term prospects at the club are diminishing.

He is standing out near enough every game for the Midlands giants, and the club will surely have to brace for interest in the midfielder when the transfer window opens.

His fantastic work rate and sublime on-the-ball ability arguably make him worthy of a top six club, and Villa will do brilliantly to keep him beyond the current season.

What is absolutely essential, is that the club don’t drop back into the Championship – because McGinn would be off in a heartbeat. In truth, the club may be powerless to prevent his exit even if they survive.
