John McGinn saying Aston Villa teammate is even fitter than him

John McGinn has named Aston Villa teammate Marvelous Nakamba as the fittest at the club.

McGinn, 26, is a box-to-box central midfielder that is widely renowned for his immense stamina and work rate.

The Scottish ace is an ever-present in Dean Smith’s XI, and is likely to play a key role for his country too at this summer’s European Championships.

But he’s confessed that one teammate is even fitter than him at Villa Park.

Nakamba hasn’t been a nailed-on starter in the midfield this campaign, playing just 12 games across all competitions due to the sheer amount of competition in the squad.

The 27-year-old has shown he’s got an incredible engine though to keep running when he features.

“[Stamina is] a big part of my game, but Nakamba is the fittest I would say [in the Villa squad]. He does get about the pitch well,” McGinn told Soccer AM.

TBR’s View:

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante seemed to raise the bar for running stats years ago when he first arrived in England with Leicester City, while the current Leeds United team are one recognised for their relentless work in matches.

But Villa have several individuals that get through so much work.

McGinn is definitely the standout in that aspect, as you’ll see him pop up all over the pitch during the course of 90 minutes.

Nakamba is someone that Villa fans are perhaps still waiting to see the best from in terms of his quality on the ball, but he’s got the physical attributes.
