John Hartson wants fresh investment at Celtic for next season

John Hartson has shared his wish for Celtic to freshen up an “exhausted” squad during the summer transfer window.

The Bhoys suffered a frustrating 2-0 away defeat to Rangers at the weekend and lost both league visits to Ibrox during the campaign.

They did once again win the league title to make it eight on the spin, but it seems like Old Firm rivals Rangers are growing under Steven Gerrard.

Interim Celtic boss Neil Lennon still has the chance to get his side over the line for a domestic treble.

They face Hearts on the final day of the season at the weekend, before facing the same opposition once again a week later in the Scottish Cup final.

Ex-Celtic striker Hartson believes his former side need to strengthen during the summer, regardless of whether or not they clinch a domestic treble for the third season in succession.

“For me, they need a bit of help [in the summer], they look absolutely exhausted,” Hartson wrote in the Glasgow Evening Times.

“These players have done remarkably well over the last three seasons, but whoever the manager is next season, there has to be fresh investment.”

TBR’s View:

Celtic do still have a relatively young group at Parkhead that have room to improve and it can’t be forgotten they have had this year disrupted by the mid-season departure of Brendan Rodgers.

It was an eye opener at the weekend that Rangers could be a serious challenge next year for the league crown, but it’s certainly not time for the Bhoys to panic.

They already have a core group of winners that will once again be favourites next year and perhaps just need a couple of faces to simply spark new competition.
