John Hartson reflects on big Celtic decisions ahead of the summer

John Hartson believes that Celtic haven’t been at their fluent best and that there will need to be a considerable revamp in the summer.

The Bhoys are still on course for another domestic treble, but they haven’t done it with the style of recent years.

Brendan Rodgers helped the Scottish giants win a cup and lead the league, before he made his mid-season departure to Leicester City.

Interim boss Neil Lennon has since picked up the torch to have the club on the verge of the league title and also face Hearts in the Scottish Cup final in May.

“He’s done everything asked of him (Lennon). Some may be moaning about the quality of the games at the minute, they’ve drawn a couple, but the football hasn’t been brilliant all season, even under the previous manager but we’re on the cusp of a historical treble treble,” Hartson told BBC Sport.

“There are big decisions to be made on players. You’ve got five or six players who’ll go back to their respective clubs from loan spells; they’ve got to be replaced. There are decisions on current players to be made, players who aren’t playing on a regular basis.”

TBR’s View:

Celtic have set some remarkable standards in the last couple of years under Rodgers and it would have been impossible to stay it.

But most importantly their domestic dominance has continued and it would seem harsh not to give Lennon the permanent manager’s job at Parkhead.

There are a number of players that are on loan with the Bhoys in the shape Filip Benkovic, Jeremy Toljan, Daniel Arzani, Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah.

They will need to try find some replacements that can sustain their domestic dominance and ideally help them make some improvements on the European stage too.
