John Hartson praised West Ham for their performance in the defeat to Liverpool on Monday night and believes they have now set the benchmark they need to avoid relegation.
The Hammers ended up suffering a 3-2 defeat away to Liverpool in the Premier League, but at one stage looked like they could be the first team to beat them this season.
Georginio Wijnaldum opened the scoring within nine minutes for runaway league leaders Liverpool, but West Ham quickly responded through an Issa Diop header.
Substitute Pablo Fornals then put the visitors into a surprise lead at Anfield, but Liverpool earned three points due to goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Moyes’ team remain 18th in the table still occupying a relegation spot, but at least showed some real fight against arguably the best team in the world right now.
Hartson, who had a spell at West Ham as a player, believes that his former side can beat their relegation battle if they match Monday night’s levels for the rest of the season.
“West Ham with that effort and desire they showed tonight will stay up.. that’s the benchmark performance between now and the rest of the season. Liverpool relentless,” Hartson wrote on his personal Twitter account.

TBR’s View:
West Ham may have earned no points from their latest league game and are in the thick of a relegation battle, but can take a lot of positives from their display.
It should be a perfect platform going into their next match at home to Southampton next weekend and that’s a fixture they desperately need to win.
There are a number of skilful individuals at the London Stadium who will feel they are far too good to relegated and they need to prove it now in the remainder of the season.
