John Hartson makes six-word prediction as Leigh Griffiths signs Celtic contract
Leigh Griffiths has penned a Celtic extension that will see the striker remain at Parkhead until the summer of 2023. The forward had entered the final 12 months of his contract at Celtic after a difficult couple of years. But Ange Postecoglou has chosen to keep him – and John Hartson has a prediction.
Griffiths, 30, is about to enter his eighth season at Celtic. But in his last three seasons, the Scotland international has only clocked up 79 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants – scoring just 25 goals. It is a stark contrast to his first four seasons with the Hoops.
He scored a whopping 98 goals in 183 games during that time. Now, he has penned a new deal as Celtic hope for a new lease of life under Postecoglou. It keeps Griffiths on side for the next two seasons and Celtic icon Hartson has delivered an exciting prediction – that Griffiths will score 25 next term.
Griffiths will struggle to get the necessary game time at Celtic
Odsonne Edouard remains at Celtic and the Hoops will be desperate to offload the Frenchman. His contract expires in 12 months and the Hoops need some cash for new players. So, that would appear that Griffiths would jump up the pecking order. But one or even two new strikers could come in.
It is much more likely that the ex-Hibernian and Wolves man will warm the bench and get the odd start here and there as cover – much like he has done over the past three seasons. That means Griffiths will struggle to score 25 goals for Celtic next term despite the prediction from Hartson.
