John Hartson has told BT Sport (Monday, 12pm) that he is confident Celtic will beat Danish side FC Copenhagen after the Scottish champions were told who they will face in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Celtic finished top of their group after two wins against Lazio and securing three points against Rennes and CFR Cluj. Meanwhile, Copenhagen finished in second place in Group B, with nine points from six games.

Copenhagen only won two of their six European matches, drawing three times and losing once. They did, though, finish above Ukranian giants Dynamo Kiev. Copenhagen sit in second place in the Danish Superliga, seven points behind FC Midtjylland.

Celtic icon Hartson reacted to the draw immediately, claiming that the Hoops will be happy to have been handed Copenhagen in the first knockout stage – and is confident his old side can beat them on February 20 and 27.

“I think they will be confident,” Hartson said. “They’ve avoided the tougher teams. Shakhtar, Roma etc. I think they will go to Denmark and it will be a good trip for supporters, they did excellently in the group. I think they will be fairly confident.

“The second leg at home is key. The crowd make it difficult for teams to win at Celtic Park. The crowd will push them on.”

TBR’s view – Can Celtic reach the last 16 of the Europa League?

Under Neil Lennon, Celtic look a much stronger side in Europe than they did under Brendan Rodgers. Finishing top of their group, a trip to Copenhagen will hardly phase Celtic after wins over Lazio, twice, Rennes and Cluj.
In comparison, Copenhagen are a good side but do not boast the kind of players that Lazio and Rennes do. Celtic will be delighted with the draw – and have a very good chance of qualifying for the next round. Rangers, meanwhile, face Braga.
