John Arne Riise says who he thinks is better out of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Gareth Bale

At this point, it’s difficult to come up with new ways to describe the brilliance of Mohamed Salah.

Salah is in Ballon d’Or winning form this season, and he’s quickly ascending up the Premier League goalscoring charts.

Salah’s Liverpool contract is up in the summer, and while contract talks are going well, we could be headed into the final few months of Salah playing at Anfield.

Regardless of what the Egyptian’s decision is in terms of his contract, Salah’s legacy at Anfield is secure.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, John Arne Riise has been comparing Salah to some of the greatest wingers of the modern era, and he’s made an interesting claim about the Liverpool ace.

Mohamed Salah rated higher than Gareth Bale

When ranking and rating some of the great wingers of the modern era, John Arne Riise ranked Salah ahead of Gareth Bale.

Salah and Bale are two players who have defined football over the past decade or so.

Salah has been a dominant force within the Premier League, winning three Golden Boot awards at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Bale had his own spell of Premier League brilliance before winning five Champions League titles with Real Madrid.

Riise ranked Salah ahead of Bale, and he’s not the only player he picked Salah ahead of.

Salah compared to Bale

Comparing Salah and Bale is not an easy task.

On one hand, Salah is a goalscoring machine in the way Bale never was, but, on the other hand, Bale did taste a lot more success in terms of silverware.

Ultimately, it’s down to personal preference who you prefer here. In terms of producing bolt of the blue, spectacular moments, Bale is probably ahead of Salah, but in terms of sheer consistency, Salah does outshine Bale.

Interestingly, Riise has played against Bale on six occasions in his career, and he doesn’t have the best of records against the Welshman.

Riise knows first hand just how good Bale is, but he still picked Salah ahead of the Welsh legend.
