Thomas Partey completed a late move to Arsenal on deadline-day after the Gunners made the surprise decision to activate his £45million release clause – and Johan Djourou has responded on Instagram with a four-word verdict.
Arsenal were linked with a move for Partey for the entire window, but it took until the last hours of the 10-week long window for Arsenal to finally land the Ghanaian. Partey – who was the most expensive deal of the day – has signed a four-year deal.
The Guardian have claimed that Partey will earn a whopping £230,000 a week at Arsenal, making him Arsenal’s third-highest earner behind Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – as per Spotrac. Lucas Torreira joined Atletico on loan.
The Uruguayan moved in the opposite direction while Matteo Guendouzi also departed, moving to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin for a season on loan. Arsenal confirmed the addition of Partey in the final hour of the window.
Partey will now rival Granit Xhaka, Mo Elneny and Dani Ceballos for a place in Arsenal’s midfield – but is expected to instantly become first choice under Mikel Arteta. His move is a coup for the Gunners, who have further strengthened their top-four hunt.
Former Arsenal defender Djourou reacted to the club’s initial post of Partey’s addition on Instagram, commenting a four-word verdict on the African powerhouse’s move to north London: “The Lion has arrived.” Romeo Beckham also responded.
