Arsenal are gearing themselves up for another busy summer, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen the ranks again with a number of fresh signings.
Arteta, backed by transfer guru Edu, will look to wheel and deal again. Last summer saw the club sign the likes of Gabriel and Thomas Partey, while in January, Martin Odegaard also arrived on loan.
Indeed, it is Odegaard’s future which seems to be one of the big talking points for the Gunners faithful lately. The Norwegian has impressed at the club, but there are mixed reports coming from Madrid over what his future might hold.
But Arsenal might not need to worry. That’s because in Joe Willock – currently thriving at Newcastle – the Gunners might already have the answer to their problems right in front of them.
Willock excelling at Newcastle is a bonus for Arsenal
Willock’s loan spell is turning into exactly what you want it to be for the club loaning him out. He’s playing regularly, playing well, and scoring goals. Indeed, he has three in just nine games for the Toon, scoring once again against West Ham today.
That form, of course, is enough to give Mikel Arteta at least some food for thought. Odegaard will cost upwards of £20m at least if Madrid do decide to sell. Willock, on the other hand, is a lower earner and a player who’ll be desperate to succeed in North London.
Willock will need to ensure he has a good summer, and hits the ground running. Arteta will be keeping a close eye on him, for sure.
But if he can translate this form with Newcastle onto the training field and beyond for Arsenal, then he might just save his club a pretty penny or two in the market this summer.
