Joe Rodon could be vital to Tottenham’s pursuit of Brighton’s Ben White

Tottenham signed Joe Rodon in the summer and his performances and past could well prove vital in Jose Mourinho’s supposed pursuit of Brighton’s Ben White.

The Sun claimed this week that White is the subject of interest from Tottenham, Man United, and Chelsea. White, 23, has been in excellent form for Brighton since coming back from his spell with Leeds last year.

Brighton are likely to demand a big fee for White if they do decide to sell. White signed a new deal in the summer and, according to the The Sun, the Seagulls value him at around the £50m mark.

And while the fee will be what it is for whoever wants White, at Spurs, Jose Mourinho may well be keeping a close eye on Joe Rodon before making any big decision on the Brighton man.

Similarities

Rodon is only just getting his feet under the table at Spurs but won plaudits at the weekend for his performance against Chelsea. He is, then, expected to keep his place for the weekend.

Importantly for Mourinho, Rodon has similarities with Ben White. Similar ages, and both cutting their mustard in the Championship, how Rodon adapts could well indicate to the Spurs boss how White might fit in at Tottenham.

Of course, White could be classed as an established PL defender at this moment. He has been superb for Brighton and has rightly won praise from pundits and fans alike.

A big move look inevitable eventually for White. For Spurs and Mourinho, Joe Rodon’s development and adaptation could be crucial to them following up any interest.

Whether it be to confirm White would be just fine at a higher level, or whether Rodon proves Spurs don’t need him, it’s certainly something interesting for Mourinho and his coaching team to consider.
