Joe Ledley claims Spurs look better when Gareth Bale is playing
Former Wales midfielder, Joe Ledley, believes Spurs are a better team when Gareth Bale is playing and called his critics this year ‘harsh’.
Bale helped Wales to a big win in the week, producing a fine cross for Daniel James to nod home. It was a moment of inspiration from Bale, who seems to find them time and again for his country.
For Spurs, Bale has often struggled to get going, although he was improving prior to the break. And speaking to Football London this week, former teammate Joe Ledley believes Bale should be in the Spurs team more often.
“He’s a fantastic player. He’s had a lot of criticism, which I think has been a bit hard. He’s a great player and I think he’s done well for Spurs so far this season,” Ledley said.
“I think he’s looked really well. I think Spurs look better when he’s playing but that’s what he’s capable of doing. If you give him half a yard he can finish or he can deliver balls.”
Bale will be looking to finish the season strongly after a strange week of comments. He told the media in midweek he expected to go back to Madrid. However, since then, the Spanish club have appeared to distance themselves from Bales returning.
TBR View: Bale is exceptional on his day but needs more of those days
Bale was always going to take a bit of time to get going given the lack of football in Madrid. In fairness to him, he looked very good in February and March when he got the chance.
It’s a big few months for Bale in all seriousness. Sure. he won’t be worried financially but in terms of football, he’ll want a move somewhere where he can succeed.
Whether Spurs take that punt on a permanent basis remains to be seen. He is, after all, an expensive bit of business to get over the line.
