Joe Hart lauds Spurs star on Instagram after Chelsea draw

Joe Hart was amongst those to send a message to Steven Bergwijn on Instagram after the forward scored for Spurs in their pre-season friendly with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men battled back from 2-0 down to earn a draw at Stamford Bridge.

It was Bergwijn who scored the equaliser, with the Dutchman sliding the ball past Edouard Mendy with 20 minutes to go in their Mind Series encounter.

It looks to have been an extremely positive pre-season for Bergwijn so far.

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold recently claimed that the 23-year-old was one of the two players – along with Dele Alli – who looked most impressive in the first couple of training under Nuno Espirito Santo.

He has been a standout performer this summer. And understandably, many connected with the club seem delighted with the impact he is having.

Hart, of course, sealed a move away this week. But the goalkeeper was amongst those to laud the youngster on social media following the draw…

Could Bergwijn be a surprise package for Spurs this season after Chelsea goal?

Bergwijn has not had the easiest time in North London. His return of four league goals, unfortunately, does not vindicate Tottenham’s decision to spend £27 million on him in 2020.

But there have been glimpses of his quality. And he seems to be one of the more impressive players since Nuno took charge.

So perhaps the door is open for Bergwijn to be a surprise-package for Spurs this coming campaign.

He certainly has the ability and quality to make a devastating impact. He scored 19 goals and provided 22 assists in his last year and a half in the Eredivisie.

Perhaps a positive pre-season could act as the springboard he has desperately needed.
