Dele Alli continued his return to form on Sunday evening as Tottenham Hotspur came within an inch of beating Everton at Goodison Park – and the England midfielder has earned praise from goalkeeper Joe Hart on Instagram.
Alli, 23, has been heavil criticised for his poor performances at the start of the 2019-20 campaign. So much so, that after the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher hammered the midfielder.
But the ex-MK Dons star continued his bid to return to form with a well-taken goal on Merseyside in what was a good all-round display for Spurs. Receiving the ball halfway through the Everton half, Alli cut inside and neatly scored past Jordan Pickford.
Cenk Tosun scored late on for Everton in a match that was overshadowed by VAR and Son Heung-min being sent off for a tackle on Everton’s Andre Gomes, which left the Portuguese star needing surgery on Monday. Alli posted on Instagram.
Alli already has 37 England caps to his name but has lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s side, and ahead of Euro 2020 next summer, the attacking midfielder desperately needs to churn out more performances like Sunday’s effort to regain his place.
But his effort on Sunday was excellent and former England teammate Hart was full of praise for Alli, commenting on the Tottenham star’s Instagram post by applauding Alli with fire emojis and describing him as “class”.
