TalkSPORT’s Martin Keown has been singing the praises of Liverpool’s Joe Gomez this afternoon and believes he should be in the England squad.
Gomez is one of few England defenders who are actually fit and playing regularly right now and with the England squad yet to be decided, he could be one to watch.

Complemented by Michail Antonio as being a ‘joke‘ for his performance against Man City, Gomez has stepped up to the plate recently. And because of that, Martin Keown believes he is a player England have to look at ahead of Qatar.
“A lot of people seem to be against Gomez. I’m a big admirer. He had a dreadful injury, on the back of an ACL which he did when he first came to Liverpool. I think he’s an outstanding talent. I think that we may have been denied one of the best ever partnerships with Van Dijk in the middle,” Keown said on TalkSPORT.
“It’s just the way I view the game. I think there’s a quality about him, there’s a swagger to him. He passes the ball really well. I’m not sure we (England) can turn our back on a player like that. Can we really turn our back on Gomez for the World Cup?”
TBR’s View: Gomez Shining For Liverpool
If Joe Gomez keeps this up then a place in that England squad could be his. If he stays fit, he’ll be one of few players who can play centre-back and right-back who are playing weekly.
Ben White is another one doing a similar job at Arsenal, and Gareth Southgate will get to a point where he simply cannot ignore either he or Gomez.
For Liverpool, Gomez’s form has been a massive boost and the comments from Keown here are deserved. Hopefully, he can stay injury free and keep up this run.
