Joe Cole picked out Liverpool frontman Roberto Firmino for huge praise after his performance in the emphatic 7-0 victory away to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool produced an attacking masterclass to beat Palace 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Premier League fixture, which opened up a six point gap for them at the top of the table.

Firmino was in fine form by contributing two goals for his side, the first a calm finish with the outside of his boot after he had trapped the ball dead superbly well inside the box.

The 29-year-old doubled his personal tally with a delicate left-footed chip from a tight angle and he looked very much at his best in front of goal, plus he weighed in with one assist.

Reds Teammates Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Sarah (two) were the other goalscorers at Selhurst Park.

Pundit and ex-Liverpool player Cole waxed lyrical about Firmino for his latest display.

“He works tirelessly, he always makes the right decision, he’s a threat in the air, he’s such an important component . He’s the catalyst for me that brings it all together,” Cole told BT Sport (2:40pm, 19 December).

Despite there being some negativity aimed towards Firmino for a quiet start to the season, he’s come alive in the past week and is proving why he remains one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League.

The Brazilian now has three goals in his last two league appearances and got the reward that his overall performance deserved.

He showed a more clinical touch against Palace in front of goal, but he continued doing what he always does with his hard running off the ball and his intelligent movement to link up with others.
