Joe Cole says Tottenham pulled trigger too early with Mourinho

Joe Cole has claimed that Tottenham made a mistake sacking Jose Mourinho as their manager earlier in the week.

Spurs dismissed the Portuguese 58-year-old boss at the start of the week, which seemed bizarre timing given they play in a cup final on Sunday.

Ryan Mason has stepped up as interim boss until the end of the season and started with a league win over Southampton on Wednesday. However, he’s now got to take a team to Wembley Stadium tomorrow to face league leaders Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

BT Sport pundit Cole, who played under Mourinho during his time at Chelsea, believes Spurs have made an error with their decision.

“If you take the amount of points they got from when Jose took the job, there are only three clubs [that have more], and he’s in a cup final,” Cole told BT Sport.

“I think they pulled the trigger too early with him, I really think they’ve made a mistake. I think it was a bad decision from Tottenham.

Whether Mourinho manages again in the Premier League remains to be seen, but he deserves immense praise for what he’s given the English game during the past couple of decades.

He’s most recognised for two different spells in charge of Chelsea, where he won a total of three league titles. Additionally, in more recent years he’s had spells with Manchester United and Spurs.

It does seem that he’s been on the decline, and the fact his team don’t play the kind of eye-catching football that some other elite clubs do nowadays definitely goes against him when it comes to opinions from supporters.
