Joe Cole hails Aston Villa 23-year-old who’s getting “better and better”

Joe Cole has praised Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa by picking him when selecting the England squad he would take to the European Championships this summer.

Konsa, 23, has been a key player this season at Villa Park, and has been in favour since joining Dean Smith’s side for £12million (BBC) in 2019.

The athletic centre-back has formed a superb partnership in the heart of defence alongside Tyrone Mings, with the duo so consistent in front of brilliant goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The defender has never been called up to the senior England squad before, but has represented his country at youth level.

Pundit and ex-Villa player Cole named Villa’s centre-half in his England squad.

“I’ve seen him from his days at Charlton as well. He keep getting better and better,” Cole told BT Sport.

TBR’s View:

If you were thinking of a wildcard pick that could force his way into the England squad at the last minute, Konsa is definitely one name that deserves a mention.

There aren’t many centre-backs that have been more consistent in the Premier League this campaign, and he’s certainly got the ability as teammate Mings has shown up well on the international stage with the Three Lions.

He’s got all the attributes you need in a modern day defender with his pace, composure and quality on the ball. On top of that, he’s someone not afraid to do the ugly side of the game as well.

England boss Gareth Southgate has an interesting decision to make on his centre-back selections, and surely it’s only a matter of time until Konsa is recognised.
