Joe Cole and Peter Crouch praise Harvey Elliott for his Liverpool performance today
Liverpool saw off Burnley with relative ease this afternoon as they ran out 2-0 winners at Anfield, with goals from Jota and Mane sealing the win.
It was a good and solid display from the Reds. They had to work hard, as expected, against a dogged Burnley side. But in the end, their quality shone as they made it two from two this season.
Manager Jurgen Klopp elected to play both Harvey Elliott and Naby Keita from the start this weekend. And it was youngster Elliott who caught not just the fans’ eyes, but also onlooking pundits.
Elliott was good all game really and got on the ball a lot. It’s clear to see he has matured in his loan at Blackburn, and Klopp will have liked what he saw as well.
And speaking on BT Sport after the game, both Peter Crouch and Joe Cole said they believe Elliott can play a big part this season for Liverpool.
“He looked comfortable in possession and he’s got a lot more confidence from his loan spell at Blackburn. He’s been under the radar for a few years but he’s going to play a big part in Liverpool’s season,” Crouch commented.
Adding to Crouch’s comments, former England man Cole also loved how Elliott got on the ball so much.
“He’s got what Jurgen Klopp likes. He’s got legs, he’s a good technician. He was very mature today. And I think Jurgen Klopp will lean on him this year.”
Elliott arrived at Anfield as a 16-year-old and has played in cup games since his arrival. But his time with Blackburn last season has served him well, and his debut today will have convinced Jurgen Klopp to keep him around.
