‘Gone to another level’: PL pundit claims Newcastle man has got even better under Eddie Howe

Ask most Newcastle United fans who their best player is and most will reel off the name of Allan Saint-Maximin as the man who makes the Toon tick.

The French winger has been outstanding ever since he arrived in England. Akin to Toon legend Faustino Asprilla, Saint-Maximin is capable of the sublime and ridiculous, but at the same time can struggle for consistency in his game. Of course, Newcastle have been a struggling team for the last 12-18 months as well.

However, in recent weeks, ‘ASM’ has improved once more under Eddie Howe it seems. He scored against Watford a few weeks back, while he absolutely ran Everton ragged just last week. And according to former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris, Saint-Maximin has gone to another level under Howe’s management.

“I know we were talking about that Eddie’s taken them to another level. But I do think that he (Saint-Maximin) has gone to another level. I remember speaking to Stephen Clemence and Steve Bruce about him. They actually thought he was the most gifted player they ever worked with,” Morris said on PremierLeague.com.

“I kind of didn’t really see it at the time. But of late, he looks like he can destroy any team, any defence. Whether he goes on outside or the inside. And he’s getting his shots off a lot earlier than he used to as well.”

TBR’s View: Big Move Beckons For Saint-Maximin

That is, of course, unless Newcastle can really spend big in the summer and convince him to stay put. The Toon star is such a talent that most of the Premier League would surely take him.

However, the buyout from PIF has given the Magpies a chance of keeping him. But if not, then he really will have the pick of the top clubs if he wishes to move on. Saint-Maximin is quality, and Jody Morris is bang on here about him.
