Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink singled out Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts for praise after his display against Hull City in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
The 21-year-old forward came off the bench to score two goals in an eye-catching 4-0 away victory at Hull in the Championship.
Luke Ayling and Pablo Hernandez were earlier on the scoresheet for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who extended their lead in second over third-placed Fulham to eight points.
After winning three consecutive games by 1-0 scorelines, Leeds showed a more ruthless edge in the final third and picked off their opponents in the closing stages after grinding them down.
Hasselbaink was impressed by Roberts for his effort when he entered the action and admits he’s a big fan.
The Wales international smashed in his first with a left-footed finish inside the penalty area, while his second was a great header across goal.
“That’s what Leeds has been missing, someone who can give them a little spark off the bench. Being able to score off the bench. You need that if you’re going to get promotion,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports Football channel (2:35pm, 29 February).
“I like him as a striker because he’s very good playing with his back to goal and that’s what Leeds need. Also he’s got an eye for goal. At the boy this moment is very hungry because he’s coming back from a big injury.”

TBR’sView:
Roberts sent a real message to manager Bielsa with his lively contribution at the weekend and will hope for more minutes during the remainder of the season.
It was only the youngster’s 13th appearance of the season in all competitions and he’s had some unfortunate luck with injuries.
He’s had to be patient waiting for his opportunity in recent weeks on the bench, but showed that he’s got a lot to add to the team with his pace and composure in front of goal.
Patrick Bamford is likely to continue as the first-choice striker at Elland Road, but he now needs to step up considering the cameo from Roberts.
