Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink hails ‘lethal’ Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford after hat-trick heroics

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford proved plenty of people wrong last night as he scored a hat-trick as Marcelo Bielsa’s team swept Aston Villa aside at Villa Park last night.

The striker scored two brilliant goals for Leeds and bundled home the opening goal in a display that continued to answer the critics who suggested Bamford would struggle to find any success in the Premier League.

One of those self-confessed critics is former Leeds striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The Dutchman, who scored 42 goals in 87 games at Elland Road, was speaking as part of the Premier League Productions coverage of the game (23/10/2020) and was clearly impressed with the display from the Leeds striker.

“He has had a lot of critics especially last year, especially from me as well,” Hasselbaink admitted. “This year in the Premiership he has shown that he is a very good player and a very good goalscorer and today he took his goals really, really well.

“Why he has always been in the team is because he is always giving honest performances. He has always been working really hard. Needed in the past, more chances, but since he has been in the Premier League he has been lethal.”

Bamford has often been criticised for his inability to turn chances into goals during his time in the Championship but is now one of the top scorers in the Premier League.

But now he appears to have added goalscoring nous to his unstoppable motor, Bamford has become a dual-threat for Bielsa – who is being rewarded for standing by the much-maligned frontman.

Hopefully, Bamford continues to confound the critics, Hasselbaink included.
