Aston Villa defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Unai Emery’s men have now won their opening two games on their return to Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Jhon Duran netted the winning goal after coming on as a super sub once again, taking his tally to five for the season.
Duran has earned plaudits from teammates Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers but there was another Aston Villa star who really was the unsung hero.

Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne was the real unsung hero vs Bayern Munich
Lucas Digne was absolutely magnificent at left-back and kept the dangerman Michael Olise quiet for much of the encounter.
Digne’s Sofascore statistics were very impressive:
- 90 minutes played
- 46 touches
- 87 per cent pass completion
- 7 clearances
- 5/7 duels won
- 3 interceptions
The Frenchman hasn’t always been favoured during Emery’s tenure but has started every Premier League game this season.
Digne has already laid on two assists, too.
