'Jesus wept', 'please tell me this is a joke': Some Arsenal fans react to statistic from last night
A number of Arsenal fans have reacted with dismay after reading that the Gunners player who had the most shots over the two Europa League semi-final legs was a defender.
Mikel Arteta’s charges have been eliminated from the competition after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Villarreal.
The damage was done in the first leg, while at the Emirates, the visitors held out for a goalless draw which took them into the final, where they’ll face Manchester United.
Arsenal bowed out of the Europa League having only mustered one shot on target in the second leg, despite Arteta loading his team with attacking players.
Indeed, Rob Holding was the Gunners’ most threatening player on Thursday – indeed, in the tie as a whole, with four shots across the two games.

That’s the second most worrying stat I’ve heard today, one behind that Willian has the most assists for us in the premier league this season

Defeat in the Europa League effectively means Arsenal’s season is pretty much over, barring an extraordinary turn of events in the Premier League.
The Gunners are out of all the cup competitions and sit 10th in the table, nine points adrift of fifth with four games left.
