Jesse Marsch says Leeds United player put in one of the best performances he's ever seen against Aston Villa
Jesse Marsch has hailed Rodrigo Moreno at his pre-match press conference before Leeds United play Cardiff City tomorrow.
Marsch said that the Spanish international put in one of the best striking performances he has ever seen in Friday’s 2-1 loss at Aston Villa.
Patrick Bamford came off the bench in that defeat, scoring the Whites’ only goal of the game to half the deficit but Leeds came away with nothing.
Marsch said it remains to be seen which of Bamford or Rodrigo gets the nod for the FA Cup third round replay against the Bluebirds.
Marsch praises Rodrigo at pre-Cardiff press conference
Marsch said: “Whether (Bamford) starts tomorrow, we wait and see.
“Rodri came out of Friday, he was fantastic in every phase, one of the best performances I have ever had from a striker.
“What a strong performance. (He is in) great form (and we need to) get him going for this match.”
Rodrigo had a first half goal disallowed for offside which would have made the score 1-1, and then in the second half, Villa made it two with a goal awarded by VAR after a tight offside call.
Marsch has been relentlessly positive in the aftermath of Friday’s defeat, and part of that is it being his method to try and motivate his players and keep the faith of the fans.
But you also cannot get away with overplaying your hand, and Leeds lacked guile and clear attacking ideas on Friday, for all their hard work.
Perhaps it is being harsh, but neither the team performance nor Rodrigo’s display was as good as Marsch is saying it is, and he really needs to avoid going out of the cup against Championship opposition tomorrow night.
There are already reports out there that Leeds have drawn up a managerial shortlist as they sit two points above the drop zone.
