Leeds United all but secured their Premier League status this afternoon with a comprehensive win over Watford.
It was another fine afternoon for Jesse Marsch’s side, who had goals from Raphinha, Rodrigo, and Jack Harrison to thank for picking up a big three points. For the new Leeds manager, the last few weeks have been just what he’s wanted to see from his players.
However, while the goals have started to flow, Marsch has revealed that the biggest discussions taking place behind the scenes have been about defending.

“I’ve been very positive with them and I’ve seen a group that’s willing and wants to fight for everything and wants to learn and grow every day. It’s been a pleasure to be their coach,” Marsch told the BBC.
“We’ve talked a lot about defending as a group – it is not just about our goalkeeper and back-line – and that we understand tactically how we want to make it difficult for the opponent at all times. Different opponents have presented different challenges to us.”
A clean sheet today was much needed for the Whites. They have always shipped goals, even before under Marcelo Bielsa, and it’s clearly something Marsch is keen to work on.
TBR’s View: Plenty For Leeds To Build On Under Marsch
Things are looking up now for Leeds with Jesse Marsch. After a tentative sort of start, the American coach seems to have got his players really buying into his ways of working. That in itself is a big positive, and gives him a big platform to build on.
Leeds fans can relax a bit tonight knowing they’re now safe in the league. Some eyes will start to turn to the summer, and keeping big players like Phillips and Raphinha. Of course, they’ll need to add new faces as well.
But regardless of all that, Marsch has got Leeds going again and deserves credit.
