Jesse Marsch impressed with Leeds' four signings involved vs Cagliari

Jesse Marsch has told LUTV that he was impressed with all four of Leeds United’s summer signings who featured against Cagliari on Sunday, while he also shared what he told the quartet about playing at Elland Road.

Leeds rounded off pre-season in some style. The Whites ultimately thrashed the Serie B side. The nature of the result however, had hallmarks of the kind of performance fans came to expect under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds played some brilliant football going forward. But there were a couple of nervy moments at the back which will be a concern ahead of the new campaign. Cagliari very nearly went from 3-0 down to 3-3 in no time at all in the second-half.

But ultimately, it was a positive evening for Leeds. And amongst those to shine were the new faces.

Rasmus Kristensen has everything needed to be a cult-hero at Elland Road. Meanwhile, Marc Roca and Tyler Adams look to have huge potential as a partnership in the middle of the park. And Brenden Aaronson was exceptional at times.

Marsch was asked about the four players after the game. And he insisted he was extremely pleased.

“That’s what I said. I talked about pushing them physically before the game and I wanted the new players to know that it wasn’t a full crowd tonight but the most important thing to know about Elland Road is that you have to give full effort and commit yourselves fully to the match. And the fans demand that,” he told LUTV.

“I think the four new players that were on the pitch tonight did that really well and showed their quality. I think the fan base is going to love these guys.”

Leeds fans must have enjoyed watching a performance where it did not appear that Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha were missed.

Last season, it was very noticeable when either player was absent. However, on Sunday, Leeds looked like a team with a plan. And that plan largely worked a treat.
