Two games played. Two games lost. That’s how it reads for Jesse Marsch so far after replacing Marcelo Bielsa as Leeds United manager.
The American was always going to find it tough going to replace Bielsa. But after last weekend’s positive enough display at Leicester, last night’s showing against Aston Villa was a long way from where the Whites need to be.

Villa simply cut through Leeds at times and in fairness, bullied them a bit as well. Steven Gerrard’s side have the quality that Leeds seem to be lacking, while the drive to impress and play for Gerrard is shining through as well. Leeds and Marsch, meanwhile seem to be miles off it.
Of course, Marsch will know the pressure is on. The task of replacing Bielsa was always going to be massive. And with a few losses under his belt already, the frustration was already in the air at Elland Road last night. Indeed, according to Leeds Live, one fan even vented his frustration by throwing a scarf at the new Leeds boss. Two games in, and that is the last thing you want to see as manager.
TBR’s View: Marsch Already On Borrowed Time
This is a bold call, but Jesse Marsch might find it hard to be in the dugout come August unless he oversees a huge spike in results and performances.
In a way, replacing Bielsa is almost a poisoned chalice. Leeds fans and players are so attached to their former manager that it will take a big character and personality to carry it on. With two defeats in a row, Marsch has endured the worst start possible.
The Whites face Norwich this weekend. If they don’t win that one, sadly there might be more than just a scarf raining down into the dugout this weekend.
