Jesse Lingard sends four-word Instagram message to £8m West Ham star

Angelo Ogbonna is likely to miss the majority of West Ham’s season after suffering an ACL injury against Liverpool – and Jesse Lingard has reacted.

Ogbonna, 33, only went off during Sunday’s 3-2 win over Jurgen Klopp’s side – after picking up a cut above his eye. But he felt pain in his knee.

Having undergone scans, it was revealed the Italy international has damaged to his cruciate ligament. A time scale is yet to be determined.

It is believed Ogbonna is to see a second specialist before the Hammers put a return date on the defender’s injury. But it is a huge blow.

West Ham are on fire; third in the Premier League, last eight of the Carabao Cup – and already qualifying for the Europa League knockout rounds.

Ogbonna, an £8m (Mail) signing from Juventus in 2015, has been pivotal to that alongside Kurt Zouma. He posted on Instagram, after the news.

Lingard among those to respond to West Ham star Ogbonna

Of course, David Moyes’ side could have suffered such an injury in a worse area of the pitch. The Hammers are well-stocked at centre-back.

Playing four at the back this season, it means West Ham have four proper players for two positions. Zouma, Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop.

Even if they wanted to revert to a back three, Vladimir Coufal or Aaron Cresswell could drop in. Declan Rice can also operate as a centre-back.

It is a blow to Ogbonna, but perhaps not as bad as losing a Michail Antonio – with the Hammers lacking cover up top. Plenty responded to Ogbonna.

Many teammates sent messages to the Hammers star, as did Manchester United ace Lingard – who of course, sparkled for West Ham last term.
