Jesse Lingard sends 8-word tweet in wake of England's Euro 2020 final defeat
England were beaten by Italy in the Euro 2020 final last night as penalties once again proved to be the hoodoo for the Three Lions.
Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Bukayo Saka all missed penalties, as England failed to capitalise on Harry Kane and Harry Maguire’s openers.
It just wasn’t to be for Gareth Southgate’s men. Rashford’s effort was inches the wrong side of the post, when on another night it goes in and puts the momentum firmly in England’s favour.
There was a huge outpouring of love and messages from players, pundits, and fans alike following the loss. One of which, was from Manchester United star Jesse Lingard.
Lingard narrowly missed out on the squad after finishing the season in fine form with West Ham. And he was on hand to offer his praise to the England squad after the game.
Lingard’s message here is the epitome of this England team. They are all together, and even the ones who missed out are still desperate for the team to do well.
The Three Lions will, hopefully, be stronger for this latest defeat. Gareth Southgate is the perfect man for the task, too.
Lingard’s message here is one which most of the nation will resonate with on the whole. And with Qatar 2022 just around the corner, thoughts will soon turn to next winter.
