West Ham’s Jesse Lingard voiced his frustration on social media after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday evening in the Premier League.

The Hammers were beaten narrowly by Chelsea at the London Stadium, as two teams competing for a Champions League spot played out a close affair.

Timo Werner’s first-half goal in the box ended up giving the Blues the victory, which means fourth-placed Chelsea are now three points above fifth-placed West Ham.

Unfortunately, David Moyes’ side couldn’t quite find the route to goal in the same way they have in recent games. However, there was a big talking point surrounding VAR from the match.

West Ham centre-back Fabian Balbuena was shown a straight red card in the 81st minute after a follow through on Ben Chilwell’s leg, but it looked like there was no intention from the defender other than to clear the ball out.

Lingard, 28, delivered his anger about the VAR decision during Saturday’s loss.

TBR’s View:

Whether West Ham could have got a late equaliser remains to be seen, but the red card pretty much dashed their chances for the final stages of the game.

A kind fixture list means they still have a massive chance to finish in the top four positions, and they just need to try finish strongly what has been a superb campaign for them.

On-loan attacker Lingard was unable to add to his tally of nine goals since his mid-season arrival at the Hammers, but he went close to scoring a half-volley against Chelsea that just flew wide of the post.
