Mipo Odubeko has completed a season-long loan move from West Ham to Huddersfield – prompting reaction from Jesse Lingard and Declan Rice.
Odubeko, 18, completed a season-long loan move to the Yorkshire club on Monday – the day before deadline day. It comes after his Hammers debut.
Indeed, the ex-Manchester United academy player was handed two first-team appearances by David Moyes. His form with the 23’s is excellent.
In 13 appearances for West Ham’s second string, Odubeko has an enormous 15 goals. In two PL2 appearances this season, he has two in two.
But instead of trying to add to his two senior outings, Odubeko has chosen to go out on loan and get game time. He has posted on Instagram.
Odubeko leaves West Ham on loan: Rice and Lingard react
His exit comes West Ham’s inability to bring in another striker. The Hammers have lacked a back-up no.9 since Seb Haller left in January.
Michail Antonio has started the 2021-22 season in fine form – after being handed the no.9 shirt. There is no way Odubeko gets past Antonio.
So, if he wanted first-team game time on a regular basis, Odubeko had to leave on loan and in a side like Huddersfield, he will get chances.
Carlos Corberan worked under Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and deploys a similar attacking style. Rice, Lingard and Carlton Cole reacted to his post.
