Jermaine Pennant has reacted on Twitter after Fabinho suffered a hamstring injury during a 2-0 win over Danish side FC Midtjylland on Tuesday night – suggesting January cannot come soon enough for Liverpool.
Joel Matip remains on the sidelines with a long-term injury and a lack of fitness. Virgil van Dijk was then ruled out of action for the majority of the 2020-21 season, and it is unlikely he will feature again this season.
It has seen Fabinho drop into centre-back to replace van Dijk, after Liverpool sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer. Rhys Williams replaced Fabinho, and the teenager has impressed.
But the Reds are really lacking in options at centre-back and ex-Reds winger Pennant – who is a renowned Liverpool fan – is concerned. He reacted to Fabinho’s hamstring injury on Twitter, stating January cannot come quick enough.

TBR’s view – What are Liverpool’s options in January?
Michael Edwards will know that it is very difficult to get a deal over the line in January, given it is the middle of the season and both clubs and players prefer to move on at the end of the campaign.
RB Leipzig’s speed machine Dayot Upamecano has been mentioned, while Brighton’s Ben White was linked in the summer after his stunning campaign with Leeds United last season. He is said to be worth £50million (Sun).
Other options could emerge, but Liverpool may find that they have to reduce their normally high standards in order to bring in a replacement in. But Pennant has summed up what the majority of Liverpool fans are thinking.
