Jermaine Jenas was blown away by Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son following his contribution in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The attacker scored two goals in a 5-0 home victory against Red Star Belgrade and usually enjoys playing on the European stage.

Spurs have been going through a difficult period of results lately, but will hope to use their Red Star victory as a turning point and Son is someone that has still looked positive this season.

The South Korea international netted an excellent half-volley for his opening goal and has now managed five in 11 games across all competitions so far this campaign.

He’s also earned a spot on the 30-man shortlist for the 2019 Ballon d’Or award and has been recognised for his individual performances, while club teammate Hugo Lloris is also nominated.

Ex-Spurs midfielder Jenas raved about Son after Tuesday night and recognises him as a special talent.

“First on the Ballon d’Or nomination he’s fully earned that, he warrants to be amongst those top players in Europe. For a couple of years he’s been Spurs’ best player and I think tonight’s performance was another example of that,” Jenas said on BT Sport 3 (10:05pm, 22 October).

“He takes the game by the scruff of the neck, he leads by example, he delivers by scoring goals. There is not much more I can say about Hueng-Min Son, his development at this football club has been a progression year on year.”

Son has turned out to be a genius £22million (BBC) signing for Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen and he does deserve his spot on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

The dynamic forward has the ability to go either way with great pace and is a natural finisher with both feet that gives Mauricio Pochettino’s team a real lift when he plays.

He is going to be crucial in the upcoming weeks if Spurs are to dig themselves out of a rut and he’s a key threat that could pose Liverpool’s defence a problem at the weekend in the Premier League meeting.
